Social sharing news and entertainment site Buzzfeed attracted more than 10 million UK users in November, the first time it has provided official figures on its progress since launching a London office earlier year.
Buzzfeed said that growth in its global popularity – which now also includes dedicated operations in Brazil, France and Buzzfeed en Espanol – had pushed it to a record high of 130 million global unique users last month.
In November 30 posts of articles and content received more than 1 million views, according to figures released by Buzzfeed on Monday.
The company said that it attracted more users in November than in the first four years of the website's existence combined. Buzzfeed was founded in 2006.
Buzzfeed added that it has seen 400% growth in UK unique users numbers since its London office opened in March.
Luke Lewis, the former editor of NME.com hired to run Buzzfeed's editorial operation in the UK, said that the growth curve has outstripped expectations.
"We're so thrilled to have built this audience in the UK," he said. "We're growing faster than we ever expected and we're looking forward to an even bigger 2014."
The company, which credited a lot of the growth to an increase in traffic coming from Facebook, said that its Buzzfeed video service on YouTube also hit a record 110m views globally in November.
While Facebook was the primary driver of Buzzfeed's overall traffic growth, Twitter referral traffic has also surged, with 180% growth in the past year.
The seven-year-old site is experiencing breakneck growth, with global unique user numbers up 350% year-on-year.
As recently as in August, 39-year-old founder Jonah Peretti sent a memo to staff, ecstatic about a then traffic record of 85 million users.
UsVsTh3m, Trinity Mirror's Buzzfeed-style social sharing content website, announced on Monday that it had more than doubled its traffic in a month, hitting 7 million unique users in November.
