Here is a CGI dinosaur adventure for Christmas that only rather perfunctorily claims any kind of documentary or educational status: in fact, it may represent another incremental stage in the evolution of animated fantasy infotainment. A brief "human live-action" prelude sets the scene: a palaeontologist shows his niece and nephew a dino tooth that apparently broke free from its owner's mouth; they ponder what might have led up to that moment. And from there we whoosh back in time to when cute dinosaurs with Disney-American accents interacted cartoonishly with each other. The action is periodically suspended to tell us each dinosaur's Latin name: it's rather like freeze-framing The Aristocats to get the lowdown on each feline breed. The storyline is about dinosaurs discovering the meaning of family and love in the course of a huge herd migration: it's really a version of the 2000 Disney adventure Dinosaur, combined with March of the Penguins from 2005. Pretty silly – but reliable machine-tooled family fare for the holidays.
