When I was 11 my mum had to put Net Nanny on our family computer as I’d started to download erotic videos through LimeWire and found myself perusing adult game websites. Those were the days!

The internet can be a dangerous place (remember Habbo Hotel?) for unsculpted young minds, leading us down rabbit holes we may never return from. It’s also a place you can calm your existential dread with a little chuckle. Sometimes even a belly laugh if you’re lucky. Here are the 10 funniest things I’ve seen on the internet.

1. ispookedyou.com

My friend James made this website years ago and doesn’t know how to delete it. I can’t remember why he made it but I love the fact that this dancing skeleton may outlive us all.

2. Ron sneezes and scares deer

When I start sneezing, I don’t stop. It’s never-ending. This video hits me on many different levels as I’ve been verbally assaulted by my father for my irreverent onslaught of achoos down the hallways. Stay strong Ron.

3. Tony Abbott eating an onion

Saw an article about North West eating an onion like an apple which reminded me of this iconic moment in Australian politics.

4. System of a Down bossa nova cover

I love a good mashup and this System of A Down bossa nova edit really tickles me. Would add it to my Sunday morning “making breakfast” playlist if I had one.

5. Rooster attack

Cock-a-doodle-doo, am I right!

6. Creep choir cover

A choir singing Creep by Radiohead in what looks like a primary school assembly hall. I found this hilarious for some reason.

7. How to dance to rock music

Essential viewing before you go to a rock concert.

8. High heels

A TikTok from 2020, what a throwback. Someone sent this to me a while ago and it occasionally pops into my head from time to time. Those poor ankles.

9. I could’ve dropped my croissant

Had to include a Vine in here somewhere. A classic.

10. Fitzroy garage sesh

The vibes are here. Fingers crossed it wins Australia’s TikTok video of the year! [Editor’s note: it has since won TikTok Australia video of the year.]
