Gathering a dream team of more than 200 characters from Sega, Capcom and Namco Bandai's stables, this tactical RPG proves an entertaining effort. A wildly imaginative (if broadly nonsensical) dimension-shattering plot introduces the massive cast, while knowingly playing on its fan-baiting appeal.
However, Project X Zone's greatest asset is its combat. Although turn-based, each attack plays out like a beat-'em-up, with up to three characters pummelling out combos. It's speedy and engaging, with the tactical aspect effected through unit position and choice of character. Cute visuals may divide player opinions, but the battle system and lengthy campaign deserve attention.
