Are there any truly unfilmable books?

Adapting bestselling novels for the big screen may be an art that doesn't always come off, but some in Hollywood are growing ever more ambitious in their book genre. The director of Nanny McPhee has been hired to shoot a romantic comedy based on the bestselling pregnancy guidebook What to Expect When You're Expecting.

It's not the first time an advice book has been mined for material. He's Just Not That Into You, the 2009 critical flop starring Jennifer Aniston, was based on the self-help book of the same name.

Are there any adaptations beyond even the most creative Hollywood producers? Can you see a way to turn, say, The Official Highway Code into a feature film? And if adaptation is a two-way street, which films might be usefully turned into manuals for living?
